look an elk!!

todays post is simply a fun post.... nothing too deep. I love to help people with their horses. I love giving free lessons! I love to see someone with a smile in place of a previously scared to death going to shit my pants look lol.
My friend tabatha is new to the world of horse ownership. She moved to my barn after months of not being helped at the barn where she was at. The only thing they succeeded in teaching her was that the horse world is cruel and political. Its selfish how people lie to get what they want. seriously... they used her to get clean stalls and never lived up to their end of the bargain and helped her in any way what so ever.
I have seen her blossom the two times i have helped her. Today she rode her for a half an hour! minimal help and her mare went from freaked out to happy ploddy plow horse with my verbal direction. I am so proud of her and I am glad to call her my friend!

the guts and glory of horse slaughter

With each article I read, each blog I read, each video I watch I'm starting to change my opinion about horse slaughter.

Seriously... Is it truly avoidable? Will it hurt things in the long run? Is it any different than euthanizing unwanted pets? I think humans have really screwed things up for all animals. But is it better for unwanted animals to stand in feedlots and die? I'm on the fence. Don't yell at me right now. Let this very young developing thought grow and base its eventual decision on my own education, which will come in time. I do not agree with the abuse... At all...
here are some facts to ponder:

horses have continued to go to slaughter plants, despite the cessation of processing nationally. However, due to economic recession following the cessation, extreme doubt in the south, massive fires, etc. hay crops were damaged, water not available and feed prices skyrockted. The already damaged economics made it almost impossible for people to keep the horses they had. The horse market could not keep up or manage the huge influx of horses. In the 80's, the processing plants had an increase of horses to 350,000 a year to balance out the recession. But when this recession hit, even with horses going to Mexico and Canada, it still wasnt' enough to absorb the horses needing a place to go.

" In terms of it being humane, I truly believe it can be done correctly and it can be done humanely. But it requires training, excellent facility design, 3rd party oversight, etc to be possible. Temple Grandin, the foremost authority on livestock behavior stands behind that it can be done humanely and I agree with her. But it will take work to get there.

I think and agree its important to work towards giving people options, but regulating breeding, besides being economically infeasible to enforce, brings the very real question of who gets to decide what "reputable" breeding is. That single question is the biggest hindrance and why in lieu of trying to determine that, that we have excellent animal welfare laws. Some of the best in the world. We simply need the money and bodies to enforce those laws. Right now, many law enforcement agencies have given up because they cannot get the help they need to house, feed and care for those neglected, abused horses. Why? because many rescues who uses to fill that role now focus on buying slaughter bound horses. And with less available homes due to economics, those purchased horses sit in rescue ware housing awaiting homes that may well never exist.

To truly deal with this problem we have to tackle many issues, from humane regulation to processing, stimulating the horse economy by giving a base value back to our horses, regulating non profit rescues and working towards letting the market stabilize. It won't happen over night. Banning domestic slaughter or the transport of slaughter internationally will not improve overall horse welfare because statistically rescue organizations cannot fill the gap or provide the number of homes required to take all the unwanted horses.

And lastly, when a horse no longer has a home and cannot be recycled into a new use (race horse to hunter prospect, retired show horse to trail horse) ...then what? Horses are not dogs and cats who are easily afforded into their elder care, so why not allow them to fulfill an end of life purpose by allowing their use as a food source, even if that meat being eaten internationally.
"

here is the deal.... we cant avoid slaughter. There are just too many people out there keeping thier colts stallions in hopes that they will catch their big breaks using is sperm to get rich. reality hits, and boom.... on horse can parent hundreds of unwanted animals. Think about it. If a dog bites someone... we euthanize it... if a horse is going to be put on the same level as a dog... BOOM lets euthanize every hors that has ever bit or kicked someone.

I am deeply sorry to those of you I have offended... horses are majestic and kind animals, when treated as such. but there are too many that stand in feed lots and starve every year.

I would raise horses to sustain my family if it were possible.... shit i even think it tastes kinda ok.

before you vote down horse slaughter, realize this... you vote it down and 100 horses will starve to death because no one, not even those resues that try their damdest to save all horses possible, can save these animals.

lets stop breeding animals that will eventually become "unwanted."

She now officially has 30 days under saddle and is doing amazing! we walk, trot canter and back up... move off of seat control... but she needs adjusted.

the new brood mare will arrive in may... I dont get the first baby but the second one is all mine!

tuesday on the farm

so today i finally got the phone call I have been waiting for... stress will go down... lives will be happier... I GOT THE JOB! so for those of you wondering... its a caregiving job for the state of Oregon. WOOOO.... is all i have to say!

things have changed here on our little 3 acre piece of property. Miss Zita had to be moved to a bar since her desire to attempt to throw me off in the pasture far outweight the benifits of having her home. She is now enjoying life in her 12x15 stall with daily turn out lol. She is fat and shiny and healthy as an ox! Now if i could just get her front end to catch up to her back end I will have an easier time riding a less downhill filly.

our little baby chickens are now big georgous hens that lay an egg a day! Our ducks i believe both ended up being males... its ok because we love them. They eat the snails.. and in the begining.. the tomatoes... lol...

Well im off to the barn to bug the horse face and make her do stuff she doesnt really want to do.

I hope you have a wonderful night!

man oooooo man

thursday beautiful sunny thursday! where have you been my whole life? ok so yesterday was by far one of the funniest walmart incidents ever in my trekking with beau. He decided i needed to buy him a semi truck toy that seconds as a match box car carrier. he was IN LOVE! so i gave in... i mean why not? what could it hurt?? except my ankles and heals in the middle of the night!

we got up to the cash register and the girl asked him how he was and he responded with " my truck is totally bad ass!" SERIOUSLY??? wow i need to watch my mouth, but how can i be mad at that cuteness?

so far he told the ducks that they are going to taste good with rice and that i needed to shut up and listen to him. OOOOh to be 2 years old again lol.

anywho... zita... the little brat decided a few days ago she didnt want to be worked and kicked out and somehow my stupid self convinced my hand to fling itself up into the flying hooves of destruction and i got kicked in my index finger,(which still hurts,) and my thumb..... MAN O MAN was i angry.

so i worked her until she was dripping sweat and licking her chops like no other. Hopefully i have cured the kick at lacy incident to where it will never happen again.

i havent ridden her in 3 weeks... slacking i know...

so i will get on here tomorrow and blog yet again so you guys can be privy to my life lol!

Alot has happened! spence and i are getting married in 68 days... can you believe that??? sheesh! zita is well started under saddle and going very well concidering she can be a little jerk lol. she does all the finer things under saddle from walk to trot to a very gangly out of controle bumpy ride of a lope hahaha, but hey, she does it!

we picked up a new pony... literally a pony that is on her way to being bred this next week to the crankiest little frustrated miny stud ever.. but they are going to make the sweetest little baby!!

tomorrow i get to put up hotwire to get the pony sectioned so she can graze! she will be happy, and I get to ride my darling zita... ok so maybe im going to work on trailer loading and see what happens... hopefully she will go in my trailer so i dont have to sell it once it is paid off.. ugh .. anywho... back to the daily grind! i will keep everyone posted!

I like her alot but she is in limbo until my bankruptcy clears so they cant take her from me.
beau turned 2 and we had a wonderful party for him! he got soooo many presents!

so the plan is to fix the fences around here and build the coop so i can get some chickens back. plus do some majoy fixing up of the front yard, first thing being trap the dogs in the back yard so my front yard can be beautified!

on a lighter note... my house smells like peaches!
you all have a great day!
peace out!

sunshine lollypops and rainbows

well hello everyone! Long time not talk! Alot has been happening in my life... all the way from getting spencer a doby puppy, to actually getting a sliding stop on vixen, its all coming together.
Every day is a challenge when it comes to my horses. Chief is a great gelding, he is willing, but still reserved. He is learning fast. Spencer and him get along great! He loves my mare, and she loves him! He moves off of leg pressure for the most part... still a little sluggish in that respect, but hey at least he tries.

Vixen Vixen vixen, where to begin. So the damn mare knows alot more than she wants to tell me. She spins, she slides, she has an excellent collected canter (when she wishes to paricipate), and her jog is to die for. I just wish I could get her head down without training aids! slow and steady, gerrrr getting impatient here. I have big plans for her, one way or the other i will get her where i want her or i will trade her for something i do want. She is coming around though, finally trusting people, WOW was that a hard road to run down!

We will be moving to pleasant hill in about 3 weeks, give or take a week. The fences suck and there are soooo many black berries its rediculous!

alright, i need to get off of here, I will start posting every day!

peace out homies

thursday

so i woke up today feeling ok! for once i have everything kinda going in the direction i want to all to go. I am in school full time, i have a wonderful baby to take care of and i have a full time job. my horses are fantastic... they will be so happy to move to the new place where they dont have to stand in their stalls all the time! ive been riding both of them fairly regularly except for the last week because ive been pretty darn sick.
Chief is going to make a fantastic mounted cowboy shooting horse and vixen is proving herself to be fast as piss in terms of her take off. i seriously thinks she wants to do gaming...
eh oh well!
kati, when you read this, it is ok to fart around anyone! its a natural bodily function, the only thing you will get from controling them is painful gas... let it all out! i dont think chad will mind...
oh yeah tomorrow is my birthday, so we are going out tonight for some reason! oh well!
spencer and i will have a good time friday night.
peace out!

alfa lalfa lalfa

ok. Those of you who dont know, I gave ruby to a trainer in eugene. she became to dangerous for me and i was worried about my son getting in her way and her biting his face off or ramming him into a wall wich would be grounds for me shooting her in the head.
i picked up a new horse... she is wonderful! alot sweeter, just as high strung but had a way better start to her and i can put her in her place and i dont feel bad about it.
her name is smash n chocolatte aka vixen. she is a cute 15.3 hands tall probably close to 1200 lbs when full weight and cute as a button!!
pictures to come

HOWEVER she aparently had an abscess that blew out tuesday night when i worked her.... ouchy is all i have to say, because it blew out half of the sole of her right forehoof... ouch ouch ouch... no wonder she was a butt on the ground... she is hurting!
so I will keep you all posted!
keep it sleezy!

money money money

I hate money. I hate everything about it. I hate moving, i hate not having my dog live with me i had not having a my durango operating properly.

I hate Barn managers that act like druggies and beat my horse with whips.
thats right, they hit my horse in the face with a whip every time she pins her ears at them... thus making her even more angry than before.. it really is a no win situation concidering i have made all this progress with her just to have them fuck up and hurt her setting me back a long ways....
so now i have to move both mares and my gelding.... this is always a good time

on the bright side my son is officially walking today!!

spencer come home and bring me my keys so the guy can come fix my durango!!!!!!!!!!!

oh ruby dont take your love to town!

needless to say... she will never do that again... and it took less than an hour to get them put on!!!
Even if everyone at the barn thinks she is going to kill them... i know better! she just doesnt want to share her stall!
she is doing really well.. just very slow going!
i will post pics soon!!

NOTE THE SARCASM

last night i had a very very startling conversation with a 17 year old claiming to be a horse trainer... who claims to have been the one who started my stud horse shorty. when i picked him up he was maybe 12 hands and half starved... barely ready for me to start. he knew nothing. would not yeild to leg pressure would not take the bit and had no idea what a saddle was. the woman who had him before... angela said she had not even started him and had only taken him to barrel competitions and tied him to the trailer....

so this girl said she started him..... wow... so what i did was absolute crap really...
i didnt have him spinning i didnt have him sliding i didnt have him doing anything... it was all a 17 year old girl...... NOTE THE SARCASM.....

THATS ALL BULLSHIT!
ok im done bitching gitta go

chasing cows!!!!

so the team penning season starts again soon! and miss diamond has not been around cows. tonight i will ride her in the pasture around the reds and see what she is going to do. it could go one of two ways... into the cows, or me on the ground. Now because if certain things that have been going on health wise i would rather stay in the saddle. if i end up on the ground at least it is soft enough i would not get too hurt.

Her owner wants her to pen, thats the glory of it... so in training her i am teaching her a discipline... thus no longer making her a green horse... thats the glory!! she really is a neat horse. all be it... a not so smart one... but a nice all around horse. perfect for bonnie... at times she reminds me of Vanna white... thats what i cal her at the barn... vanna hahah... she turns into a rail horse when i work her and i can quite litterally run her into a wall... she just shuts down... she hates arena work... but is a great trail horse!

Ruby ruby ruby... she murdered the hitching post..... there were no signs posted that said... "DO NOT TIE HORSES TO POST... UNSTABLE....." and instead of trusting my instincts.. i saw the self proclaimed 17 year old horse training wonder, who by the way bruised a mare on the chest... how do you do that? i watched her tie her moms horse and her two year old to it and they were fine... but they were not my skitish little filly Ruby. she pulled back on the post and the whole top pole came flying at her like a 100 mile and hour fast ball... rediculous if you ask me, ONLY because it took me out at the shins.... i flew hahah, swept my legs right out from under me...
nothing serious... just quite comical... due to the fact ruby had the pole tied to her face and her ass planted against the hot wire.. which luckily isnt working very well in that spot... couldnt have been above a 2 because she only flinched when it touched her...
ruby thinks everything is going to eat her. the last trainer who had her must have went at her like a flying mass of yellow jackets... the whip is going to get her.. the cross ties... the brushes.. and last of all the farrier... that will be a fun one... her previous owner... who owns diamond says she is out to get all who proclaim themselves farriers... oops... i dont think darren will like getting his as bitten... we will see what i can do with her

i am feeling much better! my neck still bothers me... but the doc said it will take time to heal... dammit... the one thing i lack the the personal department is patience... when its about me it needs to happen now!!

im out of here like a bad hairdo... cheezy i know...
but its all i got!

peace out homeys!!

i have not been able to ride diamond... i think she is getting flabby.. and ruby has a pot belly from hell im working on....

ruby does join up ok in the round pen, but she is afraid and i dont blame her at all...

damn Im a good trainer

RUBY IS HERE!! i will be posting picks of her tomorrow if i feel like i can get off the couch.....SHE IS FRIGGIN CUTE!!
so i have severe cerebral spasms and strain.... aka the muscle that actually house my spine are sqeezing the shit out of my spine...... OWWWWWWW

on the flip side bonnie came and road her girl today...

and all i have to say is Damn im a good trainer!

she did wonderfully...

i will let the pictures tell it all!!

happy friday... im going to go live in flexirol land, mixed with a little hydrocodone... wooooooooowowowowowowooooo

bravo neck you win

So i have been fighting extreme neck pain since monday. I have taken or attempted to take everything i possibly could have. every over the counter medication, every hot pack, cold pack, pain patch. NOTHING WORKS AT ALL!!!
did i mention i have only slept maybe 5 hours since monday???????????? no joke ive been surfing the net most of the nights since then or watching tv.... i may be going insane!

im frustrated. I cant ride because it hurts, when i do i want to cry. Every tiny movement kills me. I cant lift, i cant pull. Im worried about a bulged disc. That is the last thing i need to deal with right now.
I will have ruby to train, and diamond to finish and whatever else comes my way from work.
i just can deal with this right now.
so i will go to the docs before work. i will have them look at me, and if i can i will go to work.
hopefully they tell me whats wrong so that I am not in pain any longer!

ruby will be here in a couple of hours and in my hands will be her registration papers! my horse, again finally. After the loss of shorty i didnt want another horse, but i cant stay away from them. Im not me without them.

ALISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she will be here and as long as my neck holds out i will get to hang out with her and kati!!

happy friday all......
